Rebellious Integration

"My work often times uses bodily materials. The process of using these materials aesthetically is very similar to the process of achieving feminine beauty. Although recontextualized as a detachment from the body, the materials may be perceived as corpses of this quotidian female process. They are in fact, dead things that were once living and growing. The lack of life and body may be clear, despite the attempts of dressing them up.
My intention is to parallel my art-making process to actions that are considered culturally female. In examining these actions of feminine routine, they find themselves repeating over and over again not just through beautification processes, but through a wide spectrum of feminine acts. Aggressive actions like plucking, cutting, splitting, spreading, opening, enclosing. Women build up their resiliency with the weight of these acts."
